Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC) Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid

The 2 day Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid is OFSTED recognised and consists of 2 units and is provided over a period of 2 days with a minimum contact time of 6 hours per unit. The 1 day course only covers unit 1 and candidates who successfully complete this will gain a credit card certificate only, not the full Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid.

For the purpose of Registered Childcare provision and Early Years Childcare with in England, Wales and Northern Ireland the candidate must successfully complete the full 2 day Paediatric First Aid course.

The Statutory Framework for th Early Years Foundation Stage is a document published by the Department for Children, Schools and Families and applies to early Years childcare within England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Statatutory Framework states that ‘at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate.’ The HABC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid is recognised as a qualification that fulfils this need.

Candidates will be able to deal with a casualty who:

  • is unresponsive
  • has an airway obstruction
  • is suffering from shock
  • is wounded and bleeding
  • has a fracture or dislocation
  • has a head, neck or back injury
  • has a condition effecting the eyes, ears or nose
  • has a sudden illnes
  • is experiencing the effects of sudden heat (and) or cold
  • has been poisoned
  • has been bitten or stung
  • has sustained an electric shock
